About The Position

The City of Naperville is seeking a Deputy Director of Finance to assist in managing the Finance Department's daily operations. This role involves overseeing key financial functions such as accounting, payroll, billing, and revenue collections, while also supporting the Finance Director in budget development and monitoring. The Deputy Director will ensure accurate financial reporting and provide analysis on complex financial issues to aid city leadership in decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field.
• Five years of relevant work experience in government/public sector finance.
• Three years of management experience.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration, or related field.
• Previous experience with Tyler/Munis software systems.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Accounting, Budget, and Payroll functions of the Finance Department.
• Participate in the selection, training, motivation, and evaluation of personnel.
• Assist in the development of the $614 million annual budget and multi-year capital improvement plan.
• Oversee the preparation of the City’s annual audit and required financial reports.
• Assist the Finance Director in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies in service delivery and impacts on revenues and expenses.
• Provide detailed analysis of debt service needs for the City.
• Represent the Finance Department to other City departments and the public, making financial presentations as needed.
• Participate on various boards and commissions and provide staff support.
