About The Position

The Deputy Director of Development Services assists the Director in managing the Development Services Department of the City of Chula Vista. This role involves overseeing various divisions, ensuring operational needs are met, and providing high-level staff assistance. The position requires collaboration with the existing Deputy Director and focuses on strategic planning, budget management, and policy implementation to enhance the department's effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, engineering, public administration, business administration, economics, sociology, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in a related field is highly desirable.
  • Six years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, land development, or related fields.
  • Two years of management responsibility.

  • Solid experience in both current and long-range planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Department's work plan.
  • Assign work activities, projects, and programs, and monitor workflow.
  • Prepare and administer the Department budget and assist in budget implementation.
  • Administer policies and procedures to meet legal requirements and City priorities.
  • Monitor development in legislation related to Development Services functions and recommend policy improvements.
  • Represent the department in meetings with City Council, boards, agencies, and the public.
  • Negotiate and resolve sensitive issues and provide technical assistance as necessary.
  • Research, prepare, and write staff reports and other technical documents.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public.
