The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Support Services Bureau oversees commands that maintain the Department's Fleet (Fleet Services Division), secures property (Property Clerk Division), maintains and disseminates Department records (Central Records Division) and processes the print of documents for the department (Printing Section), Communications Division is responsible for receiving 911 emergency calls and dispatching emergency response personnel and Life-Safety Systems Division is responsible for enhancing and preserving the continuity and support of PSAC (Public Safety Answering Center) E-911 Systems including the Department's Citywide Public Safety Communications Radio Infrastructure. The mission of the Property Clerk Section is to accept, catalog, safeguard, store, and produce as required for court, return to legal owner or otherwise legally dispose of all property coming into the custody of the New York City Police Department. Categories of property taken into custody include evidence required for criminal cases, safekeeping of found property, decedent's property, prisoner's property, property no longer needed as evidence or for further investigation, contraband seized, paddler property pending release. DNA evidence, and property confiscated for forfeiture proceedings. Property received by the Property Clerk Section includes cash, jewelry, rifles, handguns, various weapons, general property of every description, evidence related to homicides and other crimes, and vehicles. All property coming into and leaving the Property Clerk Section is subject to strict legal constraints. Under the general direction of the Director, Property Clerk Division with wide latitude for independent judgement, action and decision-making, the Deputy Director of Administration will direct the work of supervisory, technical and support staff responsible for the daily operations within the Property Clerk Division, namely Evidence Property Control Specialists
