The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city. The Office of Green Infrastructure and Cloudburst Design and Construction, under the Bureau of Sustainability (BOS), is currently seeking a Deputy Director of Stormwater Resiliency (henceforth referred to as Deputy Director). BOS is leading the development of Stormwater Resiliency and Cloudburst Management Facility Plans by applying a holistic water management approach to improve water quality, climate resiliency and demand management. Under direction of the Director of Stormwater Resiliency (henceforth referred to as Director), the Deputy Director will oversee the Stormwater Resiliency unit, consisting of the Cloudburst and Onsite Green Infrastructure team and portfolio, as well as the Construction Management team. The Deputy Director will supervise these teams, consisting of 15-20 engineers, landscape architects, inspectors, and project managers. The Deputy Director, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgement, will be responsible for the achievement of project and programmatic goals, monitoring/ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgetary constraints, design/construction documents, and regulatory compliance for Cloudburst and Onsite Green Infrastructure projects and overall Green Infrastructure Construction Management. In addition, the Deputy Director will support the Director with providing day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates’ work assignments, motivation and coaching of current employees, approval of time and leave, staff members performance evaluations, and assessments of the group’s staffing needs. The Deputy Director will also interact with the Right of Way Green Infrastructure unit and collaborate on Cloudburst stormwater management projects. Selected candidate may also be required to perform presentations at conferences showcasing the unit’s Green Infrastructure projects and efforts.
