About The Position

The Deputy Director of the Washington State Charter School Commission plays a crucial role in leading the agency's strategic authorization activities and ensuring effective oversight of charter schools. This position is responsible for implementing the Commission's vision and mission, managing public charter school authorization activities, and adapting to a fast-paced environment while promoting equity and inclusion within the educational system.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, public administration, or equivalent.
• 7 years of progressive experience in public policy settings, including 5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Working knowledge of charter school policy and state education policy.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in public policy, Juris Doctorate, or related field.
• Knowledge of Washington state charter school policy and education policy.
• Experience working with elected or appointed officials.
• Experience in a K-12 educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Direct all public charter school authorization activities including management and evaluation of charter contract transfers, renewal processes, expansion processes, program addition requests, and charter contract amendments.
• Work closely with the Executive Director and Commissioners to implement the Commission's vision and mission.
• Track rules and policies of the Commission and other state agencies, leading processes for changing code, policy, and law related to charter schools.
• Participate in professional development on cultural responsiveness and equity analysis.
• Develop and execute project plans, strategies, and tactics for public engagement.
