Incumbent serves as Deputy Director for the Tippecanoe County CASA Program, responsible for assisting in directing operations of the program, writing and managing grants, training and supervising CASA Program Staff and volunteers, and supporting the mission and goals of the program.

Requirements

Advanced degree and seven years experience in areas of juvenile justice, public policy, business, social justice, or related area. Experience in grant writing, policy oversight, child advocacy, child welfare, and/or child focus social issues required. Completion of, or ability to complete, national CASA training curriculum.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to comply with the training and certification standards of Tippecanoe CASA, the Indiana Office of GAL/CASA, and National CASA including completion of the 12 hour GAL/CASA administrative training and 12 hours of continuing training each year as approved by the Indiana Office of GAL/CASA.
Ability to assist in supervising CASA volunteers and employees, including recruiting and screening volunteers, interviewing applicants, providing orientation, training, and corrective instruction, and ensuring compliance with program standards and procedures.
Ability to supervise and direct CASA program in absence of Executive Director.
Working knowledge of criminal justice system and Child In Need of Services (CHINS) law, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
Ability to properly operate various office equipment, including computer, software programs and internet utilized by department, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare various documents as assigned.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, often under time pressure.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to work rapidly for long periods, work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, courts, probation, Prosecuting Attorneys, Department of Child Services, Legal Aid, social service agencies, attorneys, areas hospitals, medical professionals, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to State requirements.
Ability to work with potentially irate or hostile persons, including ability to ensure protection of self and others.
Ability to testify in court proceedings as required.
Ability to occasionally work extended, evening, and/or weekend hours, and occasionally travel out of town for training or conferences, sometimes overnight.
Ability to occasionally serve on 24-hour call and respond swiftly, rationally and decisively in emergency situations.
Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.

Responsibilities

Assists in supervising CASA volunteers and employees, including recruiting and screening volunteers, interviewing staff, providing orientation to new employees and volunteers, providing training and corrective instruction, and ensuring compliance with program standards and procedures.
Supervises and directs CASA program in absence of Executive Director. Supervises assigned staff including Staff Advocate and Volunteer Coordinators.
Assists in implementing and updating program policies and procedures.
Prepares cases for assignment and makes assignments to CASA volunteers in absence of Volunteer Supervisors. Supervises CASA related court preparation, including consulting with volunteers on cases, ensuring proper preparation of volunteer court reports, and ensuring the filing of reports. Attends hearings, case conferences, and conferences called by the Department of Child Services as appropriate. Serves as CASA liaison to attorneys assigned to cases.
Supervises the implementation and usage of CASA organization data management and evaluation tool. Maintains CASA statistical information, including electronic and paper information.
Utilizes various databases to document details related to assigned cases and to maintain an accurate schedule for case conferences and court hearings on assigned cases.
Represents CASA Program at various meetings, including making public speaking presentations about the program. Assists with program public relations, including writing press releases and maintaining communication with the media.
Plans and implements training programs for volunteers, including maintaining documentation related to training programs. Participates in continuing education programs to keep abreast of new services, changes to law, standards for CASA volunteers, and best practices.
Seeks grant funding to support and expand CASA program and services to children and families in community. Prepares grant proposals, and oversees grant applications, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
Assists in implementing volunteer appreciation and recognition programs.
Periodically testifies in legal proceedings as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
