The Deputy Constable performs law enforcement activities under general supervision within a specified precinct in the County. This role includes a variety of essential functions such as patrolling designated areas, performing traffic control, transporting juvenile offenders, serving warrants, providing courtroom security, and executing civil processes. The Deputy Constable is also responsible for maintaining order in court, assisting attorneys, and conducting interviews with witnesses and suspects. The position requires effective communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in operating various job-related electronics.

  • Performs patrols of designated areas of the precinct.
  • Performs traffic control as necessary.
  • Transports juvenile offenders from juvenile court.
  • Processes documentation regarding transportation.
  • Performs warrant service and contacts defendants regarding outstanding traffic citation warrants.
  • Provides judicial officer duties and courtroom security for justice of the peace courts.
  • Maintains order and makes arrests in court.
  • Receives documents from courts, law firms, and the general public.
  • Performs data entry prior to distribution for service.
  • Executes all civil processes issued by the courts.
  • Conducts seizures with property owners, attorneys, landlords, and other parties.
  • Conducts traffic stops and issues citations or warnings.
  • Responds to stranded motorists.
  • Assists in emergency situations by participating with the command center.
  • Serves as a liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement and/or criminal justice agencies.
  • Works with school groups and civic groups as necessary.
  • Interviews witnesses, victims, and suspects.
  • Serves subpoenas, writs, and search and arrest warrants.
  • Receives criminal warrants from the courts and locates listed individuals.
  • Prepares various monthly and annual reports of activities.
  • Oversees vehicle maintenance, radio, and computer programming or updates.
  • Current in mandated TCOLE training.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of law enforcement experience or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Texas Peace Officer license.
  • Active compliance with Section 217 of the Texas Administrative Code.
  • TCIC/NCIC certification.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Vision correctable to 20/20.
  • No past convictions for DWI or DUI.
  • No more than three moving violations within the last five years.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor convictions for offenses involving moral turpitude or family violence.
  • United States citizenship.
  • Honorable discharge from any past military enlistment.
  • Good mental and physical health.
  • Experience in civil and criminal law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of Texas criminal, civil, and transportation codes.
  • Skills in mediation, intervention, and de-escalation methods.
