About The Position

The Deputy City Attorney position within the Government Team at the San Francisco City Attorney's Office involves providing legal advice and serving as general counsel to various City officials and agencies. Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in California.
• Three or more years of experience as a government lawyer, particularly in an advisory capacity.
• Experience handling advice or litigation related to tax matters, especially property tax matters (for the attorney advising the Assessment Appeals Board).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong legal analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal interpretations and advice on a broad range of legal issues to City officials and agencies.
• Draft ordinances, ballot measures, and administrative regulations.
• Review contracts for legal and procedural sufficiency.
• Attend hearings and prepare confidential memoranda for the Assessment Appeals Board members.
• Draft public decisions and findings of fact in Assessment Appeals Board cases.
• Advise commissioners before and during commission meetings.
• Develop expertise in relevant areas of law affecting multiple City agencies.
