About The Position

The Deputy Chief Digital Services Officer (Deputy CDSO) plays a vital role in the San Francisco Digital and Data Services team, acting as a senior web/data advocate for the City. This position is responsible for overseeing the division's budget, leading strategic initiatives, managing staff, and fostering partnerships across departments to enhance digital and data services for residents. The Deputy CDSO supports the Chief Digital Services Officer in representing the division and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of professional experience in policy or technology, with three years supervising professional staff
  • Ability to navigate public sector complexities
  • Experience managing large teams and line managers
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Experience with governmental legislative and budget processes
  • Experience forming strong cross-departmental relationships
  • Bilingual skills are preferred

  • Experience presenting and negotiating at executive level

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and administer the annual division budget of $12M+
  • Lead strategic and policy initiatives for the Digital and Data Services team
  • Manage recruitment, retention, development, and training of staff
  • Lead performance management initiatives and manage multiple procurements
  • Act as a liaison with central human resources for recruitments and hiring
  • Engage with departments and stakeholders to promote modern digital practices
  • Supervise policy, communications, and operations staff
  • Manage contracts, work orders, and tech marketplace procurements
  • Support the CDSO in representing Digital and Data Services around the City
  • Champion SF.gov, DataSF, and modern technology practices in all City forums
