About The Position

The Depot Technician is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of an Isotank Container Depot which includes but is not limited to operating forklifts, container handlers, boilers, and using hand tools for container repairs. Major Responsibilities: Operate Heavy Lift and Light Lift to transfer inter-modal shipping containers to and from truck chassis and in and out of storage. Containers may weigh up to 55,000 pounds Work with inventory system. Place containers properly into inventory. Maintain accurate inventory records Operate steam boilers Perform detailed inspections of interior and exterior of containers. Confined space entry possible Complete minor repairs on containers, such as fixing cladding and replacing components Work with simple tools to fix mechanical problems on valves, fittings, etc. Coordinate major repairs with maintenance department Pressurize and test containers in accordance with ITCO guidelines Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements: Able to lift and carry hoses, fittings, and other parts and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds Able to climb ladders and work above ground at dangerous heights on top of containers Able to walk and stand for long periods Able to sit for long periods at the controls while operating heavy equipment Able to work out-of-doors and tolerate rain and hot weather Must be capable of entering tanks through small manholes and be able to tolerate operating in confined spaces Must be able to wear, operate, and utilize personal protective equipment such as respirators and fall protection Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Able to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing Extremely accurate and detail oriented. Does not overlook things and make errors. Able to read and interpret complex paperwork and other data, such as chemical names, order numbers, container numbers, and rail car numbers Organized. Able to multi-task, tracking several activities at once Able to handle shifting priorities and constantly changing conditions Able to work effectively on flexible and varying work schedules Team player. Able to get along well with coworkers, drivers, and supervisors. Able to settle disagreements professionally and productively Operates with a Safety Orientation. Uses all protective equipment all the time, follows SOPs, and manages risks so that incidents are prevented High energy level and high level of initiative. Comfortable making improvements to the operation and taking the initiative in getting things fixed as they break down Mechanical ability able to operate complex equipment, perform basic repairs on boilers, compressors, valves, and other equipment Able to safely use basic hand tools Trustworthy, honest, reliable. Able to operate autonomously for long periods of time with minimal contact with supervisors. Can be counted on to show up for work every day and take full responsibility for the operation Licenses, education, and related work experience: Must possess a valid Class C Drivers license and a driving record without an excessive number of accidents and/or convictions for moving violations.
