About The Position

As a Department Specialist, you quite possibly have one of the most important jobs in the office. The work you do is seen in every tag lining our shelves, in every sign that is on display at our stores – your hard work & input makes that happen. The department specialist reviews promotional pricing, sets clearance pricing for discontinued items, and even proofs the weekly circular. You utilize reporting and data analysis to help guide the strategy around our promotional marketing. You are a partner to the Assistant Sales Manager, the local store personnel, and other marketing partners. There is a lot to be proud of as a department specialist knowing the impact

Requirements

  • Experience with Safeway Pricing/POS systems required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent keyboarding skills
  • Math skills at a specific level (i.e. one step: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or two step percent calculations or more advanced).
  • Excellent computer skill: word processing and/or spreadsheet
  • Be detail oriented, ability to organized, and strong analytical skills.
  • Possess ability to direct, organize, lead and control work group staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains complex records, files, ledgers, invoices, receipts, contracts, and other department documents.
  • Searches, verifies, and investigates information contained in files and records.
  • Posts records and processes departmental documents requiring functional knowledge.
  • Ensures data accuracy through review, comparison, balancing, and routine math calculations.
  • Collects, compiles, and organizes information from various sources for departmental reports and projects.
  • Creates and maintains complex reports, graphs, and data comparisons; compiles minor statistical data.
  • Researches, interprets, and analyzes information to support department needs and special projects.
  • Prepares information for decision‑making within defined guidelines and parameters.
  • Completes keyboarding tasks such as preparing correspondence, specialized forms, and mailings.
  • Updates information and reports using computer systems.
  • Sorts, files, and maintains department documents.
  • Answers department phones and routes inquiries appropriately.
  • Responds to inquiries, including those requiring specialized functional knowledge.
  • Coordinates special programs, events, or major projects and carries them through to completion.
  • Implements approved changes to policies and procedures impacting the unit.
  • Provides guidance, advice, and assistance to team members; acts as a liaison to other units.
  • Monitors daily work of lower‑level staff, adjusting assignments to ensure timely, accurate completion.
  • Trains new employees on job tasks.
  • Serves as a resource within the work group.
  • Provides input for performance reviews and may participate in interviewing and selection of new staff.
