About The Position

Mercy Medical Center a member of Trinity Health of New England is looking for a Department Secretary to join our Operating Room team. The Per Diem Department Secretary is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all patients and clients in the operating room and perioperative services department and is responsible for the coordination of clerical /administrative tasks and dept activities. The Department Secretary provides cooperative support and assistance to promote smooth operation of the department including scheduling, greeting clients, answering phones and assists in billing. Assists in other areas of Perioperative Services providing coverage in reception, client intake, scheduling and recovery. Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
  • Preferably 1 -2 years' experience in healthcare
  • Excellent computer abilities.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to follow written and verbal directions with multiple steps.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently within a team treatment model.
  • Ability to manage multiple phone lines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Greets callers and visitors, determines nature of their business, and provides appropriate information.
  • Operates a multi-line telephone system. Answers callers/visitors’ questions
  • Responsible for scheduling emergency surgeries according to the existing daily schedule
  • Coordinates changes in the OR schedule with other departments (Recovery, ASU, Radiology, Emergency and IN Patient units).
  • Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure any changes in the OR scheduled time are communicated
  • Maintains proficiency with office computer systems.
  • Performs clerical duties and data entry duties in a fast paced environment
