About The Position

The Department Manager at Hy-Vee assists in managing overall daily warehouse operations and directs labor. This role is responsible for maintaining equipment and the cleanliness of the facility. The position requires a focus on partnerships, a growth mindset, results orientation, customer focus, and professionalism. The manager is accountable to the Assistant Vice President, Warehousing and/or Warehouse Manager, and supervises all warehouse personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be able to do logical thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be able to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Possess the ability to write form letters or routine correspondence; interpret written work instructions; interview job applicants; and counsel or advise people.
  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less up to 20 feet or more with or without correction; depth perception and field of vision.
  • Must pass post offer pre-employment fitness test, hearing, and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • One year up to three years of similar or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work of all employees.
  • Determine labor needs, maintain use of overtime.
  • Promote, support, and direct all work to be done in a safe manner.
  • Maintain in-house quality control of products and equipment.
  • Communicate with supervisors and employees.
  • Answer questions and respond to employee needs.
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in meetings.
  • Maintain employee records and document employee interactions.
  • Report to work when scheduled and work the expected number of hours.
  • Complete training of employees.
  • Complete employee performance reviews.
  • Assist with interviewing applicants.
  • Perform other job related duties and special projects as required.
  • Instruct, assign work, review work, plan work of others, coordinate activities, and allocate personnel.
  • Select new employees and act on employee problems.
  • Recommend employee discipline, transfer promotions, and discharges.
