The Army Division (N210) is seeking a talented and experienced leader to serve as the Department Manager for the Concept to Capabilities Department (N213). This department develops innovative methods to address the U.S. Army's most challenging problems by applying state-of-the-art mission engineering and scientific disciplines. The Department Manager will oversee a diverse group of mission engineers and experts, advising senior leaders and fostering partnerships across government, industry, and academia to advance the sponsor's missions. The role is critical to the success of the Army division, focusing on delivering impact and maintaining trusted relationships with senior sponsors.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and be accountable for all aspects of project and department performance, including staff selection, technical quality, programmatic support, and budgetary development/execution.
  • Establish goals and communicate clear expectations and guidance that contribute to highest priority sponsor outcomes.
  • Deliver impact in terms of both division objectives and sponsor mission outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Service Component and Intelligence DMs and/or MDs to integrate efforts across Defense & Services, Air Force, and Intelligence programs.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with senior leaders in sponsor organizations to serve as a trusted advisor.
  • Develop and grow the department workforce talent to support the work program and cross-division needs.
  • Foster an environment of connection and belonging, with a focus on inclusion and diversity.
  • Ensure delivery of regular, constructive feedback and developmental support to Project Leaders and Group Leaders.
  • Lead by example, embodying MITRE's Cultural / Behavioral Attributes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance with access to Secure Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
  • Technical background in disciplines relevant to key work program sponsors in Army Futures Command and Army Acquisition.
  • Experience in acquisition, enterprise systems engineering, C4I, cyber security, information technology, communications, sensors, and capability integration.
  • Proven experience engaging senior sponsors with successful impacts and outcomes.
  • Established track record in leading the delivery of data-driven technical products with positive mission impact.
  • Experience managing large technically diverse teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytic, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science/Information Technology, Mathematics, natural/applied sciences, cyber security, or data sciences.
  • Current/Active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • Previous Department Manager, Chief Engineer and/or Project Leader experience.
  • Demonstrated MITRE project and people leadership experience.
  • Understanding of portfolio management principles or techniques.
