The Department Manager at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing store operations and ensuring outstanding customer service within a dynamic retail environment focused on educational content and merchandise.   • Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
  • Act as the Manager-on-Duty, providing daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.
  • Utilize analytical skills to manage day-to-day operations and make informed decisions.
  • Assign work and provide focused direction to team members to accomplish multiple projects.
  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor to assist customers with purchases and inquiries.
  • Ensure the sales floor is appealing by organizing and maintaining product displays.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions as needed.
  • 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products.
  • Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
