About The Position

As Vice President, Scientific Communications, you will establish and lead a global scientific communications organization that bridges early development (Phase I) to late-stage development and commercialization. In this strategic leadership role, you’ll oversee publication planning, data dissemination, and the creation of scientifically robust narratives for BioNTech’s groundbreaking portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs, you will work cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, and other teams to align scientific communications with corporate strategy. Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) in life sciences or medicine.
  • 10+ years of experience in scientific communications or medical writing within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven leadership experience managing diverse teams in global pharmaceutical or biotech environments.
  • Expertise in publication planning across clinical development phases (I–III) and supporting product launches.
  • Strong understanding of GPP guidelines, ICMJE standards, clinical development processes, and data interpretation.
  • Exceptional storytelling skills to translate complex data into impactful narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a global scientific communications strategy across the product lifecycle—from Phase I through commercialization.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of medical writers and communication professionals, fostering excellence and collaboration.
  • Oversee publication strategies for early clinical studies (Phase I), including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and clinical study reports.
  • Drive global publication and congress strategies for Phase II/III studies and pre-launch/launch activities.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs to create scientific platforms, Q&A documents, training materials, and core slide decks.
  • Ensure alignment of scientific messaging with regulatory submissions, health authority interactions, and product value propositions.
  • Establish governance processes for publications, authorship criteria, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and tracking.
