About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Science and Technology in Hammond, Louisiana, invites applications for Department Head of the Department of Biological Sciences. This position is responsible for the planning, direction, and development of the department as well as budget management. The Department Head serves as the liaison between the faculty and central administration and is expected to provide leadership for curriculum development, implementation, and assessment of student learning. The Department Head is the driving force behind the development and enhancement of research programs, scholarly efforts, as well as strategic initiatives that focus on recruiting and retention of a diverse and inclusive student population. This position will engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and will be encouraged to maintain a research program appropriate in a department with both an undergraduate and graduate degree program. This twelve-month position is primarily responsible for advancing the culture of academic distinction where excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service is expected. Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond, less than 50 miles from the metropolitan centers of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Southeastern has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 15,000. The Department of Biological Sciences has more than 40 faculty, and approximately 875 undergraduate majors in five concentrations: Ecology/Environmental/Evolutionary Biology; Microbiology/Molecular Biology, Integrative Biology, Plant Science, and Biology Education. The Department also has 36 graduate students in our graduate program. Requirements

  • Doctorate in Biology from an accredited university by hire date.
  • Credentials that warrant appointment at the academic rank of associate professor or professor.
