About The Position

The successful candidate will provide responsible and professional leadership in managing the day-to-day operational needs of the department, including supervision of support staff, scheduling courses, evaluating and mentoring faculty, facilitating conflict resolution, fiscal management and allocating facilities and equipment for teaching, research and service activities. Within the Department, the Chair works closely with an Associate Chair on scheduling and curriculum matters. The Chair will also represent the Department and College with on- and off-campus constituencies and maintain positive public relations with these groups. In addition, the Chair is encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the university's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement and partnerships; and e) enhancing the campus identity.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in Psychology or substantially related field by time of appointment.
  • Candidate must be a tenured faculty member at CSUSB currently in the Department of Psychology.
  • Area of specialization in psychology is open.
  • Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
  • This position includes responsibilities throughout summer and occasionally at weekend and evening events.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
