About the position

The Department Chair of Biological Sciences at Augusta University is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the academic and administrative functions of the department. The chair will lead program development, mentor faculty and students, and promote excellence in teaching and research. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a student-centric environment and enhancing research productivity while maintaining an active research program.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent leadership with effective communication to students, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders.
• Work with department and other stakeholders to enhance both teaching and research missions including growth of strong programs.
• Promote student success and manage department finances.
• Recruit, mentor, develop, manage, and retain high quality personnel.
• Develop strong relationships with community and industry.
• Conduct impactful, extramural funded research in the discipline.
• Teach courses in Biological Sciences.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biological sciences or related field.
• Sustained record of teaching, service, and scholarly achievements consistent with the rank of a tenured professor at a research university.
• Record of instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Previous leadership and administrative experience.
• Strong record of research productivity and external funding.
