About The Position

The department assistant for the respiratory therapy department is responsible for the non-clinical administrative support required to maintain the day-to-day operations of the department. Reporting to the Manager of Respiratory Care, this role oversees equipment management, supplies, ordering, revenue accountability and other administrative duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two year of related experience preferred, preferably in a health care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains a charge system that insures 0% lost charges.
  • Continually monitors the system and makes appropriate changes.
  • Collects, validates, and enters all patient charges in the computer system.
  • Audits the charging system to ensure it accurately reflects activities.
  • Maintains records as requested.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Monitors inventory levels of all department inventory, rental equipment, and office supplies.
  • Performs photocopying duties and filing of all patient data and department materials.
  • Establishes a file system for documents, maintains, and secures confidential information in an organized manner so that information is easily accessed.
  • Schedules appointments, meetings, and conference room bookings
  • Distributes notices and agendas of meetings.
  • Records, types, obtains approval, and distributes minutes of meetings.
  • Types all necessary administrative documents.
  • Assists in the decontamination and reassembly process of departmental equipment.
  • Disinfects and prepares all respiratory care equipment for sterilization.
  • Performs code cart checks throughout hospital as directed.
  • Assist with the daily operation of the respiratory therapy department to ensure accurate billing/revenue, reliable inventory and equipment availability, and effective support for departmental initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the therapists and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that any issues are communicated and resolved in timely and collaborative manner.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
