Under the general supervision of the Dental Director and the QI Dental Coordinator, the Dentist is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary (and, in selected cases, secondary) and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. The Dentist works closely with the QI Dental Coordinator to provide consistent supervisory guidance to dental staff, especially in clinical matters. The Dentist is responsible for diagnosing and treating oral health conditions, performing preventive and restorative dental procedures, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene. They examine patients' teeth and gums, interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans to maintain or improve dental health. Additional responsibilities include performing extractions, fillings, crowns, and root canals, as well as supervising and training dental assistants. Strong communication and patient care skills are essential to ensure a high standard of care. This role aligns with the principles of Access, Stewardship, and Quality (ASQ) to deliver comprehensive and patient-centered care. The Dentist will ensure accessible services for all patients, promote responsible resource management, and champion high-quality, evidence-based care that prioritizes patient well-being and long-term oral health.
