About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dentist to join their team of medical professionals in the G.K.Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, AL. As a Correctional Dentist, the individual will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals. The role is within a controlled environment where security is a top priority, offering a variety of duties. This unique position allows for making a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical and dental needs. The Dentist is responsible for ensuring quality dental care is provided to protect the rights, dignity, and health of this unique patient population.

Requirements

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or equivalent
Valid dental license in the state where the facility is located
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
Current DEA registration
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Technical skills in providing a full range of dental services
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift

Nice To Haves

Experience in clinical dentistry and correctional settings preferred

Responsibilities

Diagnosing, treating, and providing preventative care for patients
Creating treatment plans and performing dental procedures, such as extractions and restorations
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices
Maintain accurate and detailed patient dental records
Collaborating with other medical professionals to ensure staff are responsive to patients’ oral health needs
