About The Position

This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, North Carolina. Foothills Correctional Institution is a close custody facility. The position is responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to offenders, including examinations, treatment planning, and coordinating diagnostic studies. It oversees infection control, maintains accurate documentation, supervises dental staff, and ensures proper operation of the dental office. Additional duties include responding to grievances, maintaining equipment, evaluating program needs, and promoting professional communication with medical and custody staff.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of North Carolina.

Nice To Haves

  • Conducts and reviews medical and dental histories and performs examinations of hard and soft tissues.
  • Initiates appropriate dental treatment for offender patients.
  • Orders diagnostic studies, coordinates follow-up and consultations, and supervises dental staff in oral surgery, endodontics, prosthetics, and periodontics.
  • Ensures accurate documentation in dental and medical charts and oversees all infection control procedures, including barrier techniques and instrument sterilization.
  • Provides oral hygiene instructions and communicates diagnostic findings and treatment plans to offenders.
  • Documents weekly spore testing, maintains equipment, assesses program needs, supervises daily dental assistant tasks, delegates duties, evaluates office operations, identifies deficiencies, and recommends improvements.
  • Prepares written responses to offender grievances and to DAC Legal when required.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and promotes effective communication with dental, medical, and custody staff to ensure smooth operation of the dental office.
