About The Position

The St Louis VA Health Care system is looking for a Dentist that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. The applicant must be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities; and be capable of accepting full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of assigned patients within VA systems. The position at VASTLHCS requires proficiency and productivity in all areas of General Dentistry including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. The position requires excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals. General Dentist performs duties and responsibilities in the Dental Service. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Function as a full team member of the interdisciplinary team serving patients at St. Louis VA Medical Center. Patient population includes medically compromised, outpatients, and inpatients. Provide complete range of dental care to patients including removable and fixed prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, restorative dentistry, endodontics, and restoration of implants. Ensure follow-up clinic visits for existing dental problems. Document assessments and plans of care for each patient in accordance with policies and procedures. Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure continuity of patient care. Collaborate and act as a patient advocate. Maintain knowledge of new and current clinical methods. Maintain all required licensures and compliance with required trainings. The Dentist treats all Veterans, families and guests with dignity and respect. Listens to and honors Veteran and family perspectives and choices. Veteran and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds are incorporated into the delivery of services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner. Encourages and supports Veterans and families to participate in decision-making at the level they choose.
