About The Position

The Dentist is the lead clinician in charge of all aspects of dental care services.  Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the Dentist monitors performance to ensure dental services and operations are in compliance with all applicable regulatory and licensing agencies.

Requirements

  • Current, valid license to practice dentistry in the State of Connecticut.
  • Current, relevant, and substantial knowledge of areas related to health center operations, e.g., legal/regulatory, administrative, policy, protocols, and other issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, in collaborative settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly prefer minimum three years’ experience in progressively responsible administrative or management-related positions within a primary health care environment, preferably in needy and underserved communities and in a community health center setting.
  • Previous experience supervising providers and other dental professionals.
  • Previous experience providing services and exercising leadership in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting.
  • DDS or DMD with current Connecticut licenses
  • Interest in providing care to diverse patient population
  • Commitment to dental care in a community health setting
  • Bilingual ability preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a key member of the organization’s Management Team (MT) and works as part of the team on integrating clinical and non-clinical aspects of FCHC’s operations and services.
  • Provides high-quality, patient-centered care according to standards and benchmarks set by the organization, licensing boards, and funding agencies.
  • Completes all patient records, notes, and billing documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) on the day of service to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
  • Ensures documentation supports coding, billing compliance, and HRSA Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting requirements.
  • Establishes systems of accountability for providers to include productivity benchmarks, performance measures, and controls for quality assurance. Documents protocols in a manner that is easily understood and can be followed by all dental staff. Performs hands-on training of new and developing dental practices based on regulatory or best practice changes.
  • Participates in recruitment of qualified dental staff, including interviewing and recommending hires. Monitors and assists with the new-hire orientation process to ensure consistency in training among all dental providers.
  • Ensures Dental services and operations remain in compliance with all applicable regulatory and licensing agencies (HRSA, OSHA, CDC, ADA, HIPAA). Assesses all matters of compliance and provides timely recommendations for corrective action and quality improvement.
  • Reviews and updates dental policies, procedures, consents, and practice guidelines.
  • Provides leadership, vision, and direction in developing new dental service delivery areas for FCHC; directs, monitors, and evaluates programs, revising and adapting as necessary and/or appropriate; assists in formulation and/or revision of dental program/clinical services policies and protocols.
  • Provides direction of continuing dental education, training, and support for staff; chairs provider QI/QA meetings and collaborates with other Directors for staff meetings.
  • Participates in peer review, quality assurance, and continuous quality improvement activities required under HRSA/FQHC standards.
  • Disinfects and sterilizes instruments according to CDC/OSHA/ADA standards.
  • Collaborates with primary care and behavioral health teams to ensure oral health integration with medical services.
  • Demonstrates commitment to, and understanding of, FCHC’s Service Excellence Standards, by modeling service excellence in all internal and external relationships, addressing service excellence deficits in staff, and in performance of all duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Provides additional assistance within and outside of the dental arena, as requested and/or as appropriate, to ensure the ongoing success of the organization.
  • Participates in on-call rotation for all Dental patients.
