Ambulatory Health Care Services

The Dentist provides direct patient care, including examinations and assessments; orders appropriate and cost-efficient diagnostic tests; provides dental management or other appropriate treatment; provides appropriate follow-up care or referral; documents all patient care and advice given; enters treatment recommendations and exam notes into EHR; provides education and counseling to patients as appropriate, develops and/or implements plans for health promotion and maintains competency in accordance with the age specific needs of the patient. Patients cared for include infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric.

  • Provides care in the following disciplines of a general dental practice: diagnosis, preventative dentistry, operative dentistry, pedodontics, removable and fixed prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery and orthodontics (limited).
  • Serve as a resource person for all staff on day to day issues.
  • Serve as a role model for effective teamwork among staff and actively work to maintain positive morale and attitude.
  • Serve as a liaison for Spectra Health in outside agencies.
  • Attends conferences and meetings of dental importance whenever possible.
  • Participate as a team member and serves on committees as assigned.
  • Assists in development of quality improvement monitors and documents required quality improvement monitoring data and reports on results.
  • Seeks professional continuing education in order to improve or maintain knowledge, skills and abilities in order to provide efficient, effective and appropriate dental care to patients.
  • Follows all applicable National Patient Safety Goals in the provision of patient care.
  • Safeguards all patients' health information whether written, verbal, and electronic with privacy and confidentiality.
  • Oversees ordering of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with IT issues if applicable (computers and Dentrix).
  • Assist with hiring of new dental staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Certified Provider with valid licenses in jurisdiction of the clinic.
  • CPR/BLS certification is required or must be obtained within six (6) weeks of employment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat dental and oral disease.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, standard practices methods and techniques of dentistry.
  • Knowledge of preventative dentistry and educational methodologies utilized in prevention.
  • Skill in oral operative techniques and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to work on local desktop and in remote desktop sessions.
  • Basic computer hardware knowledge.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in SPECTRA HEALTH's organizational software programs including but not limited to the electronic medical or dental records, practice management systems, QuickBooks, and multiple web-site accounts.
