NaphCare is hiring a Dentist to join our team of medical professionals in the Gwinnett County Detention Complex in Lawrenceville, GA. Schedule is for 16 hours per week. As a Correctional Dentist, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide dental care to the incarcerated individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical and dental needs.

  • Diagnosing, treating, and providing preventative care for patients
  • Creating treatment plans and performing dental procedures, such as extractions and restorations
  • Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed patient dental records
  • Performing all dental assessments, radiographic exams, and dental treatment, including emergency treatment such as oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and periodontal therapy within the scope of general dentistry
  • Formulating a working diagnosis, developing and implementing a treatment plan, and evaluating/modifying therapeutic regimens to promote positive patient outcomes
  • Evaluating all patients returning from offsite dental visits
  • Participating in training and orientation of healthcare staff
  • Providing oral hygiene education and discharge instructions to all patients seen
  • Supervising and coaching dental assistant
  • Ensuring sterilization and disinfection of equipment
  • Collaborating with other medical professionals to ensure staff are responsive to patients' oral health needs
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
  • Valid dental license in the state where the facility is located
  • Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Current DEA registration
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Technical skills in providing a full range of dental services
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
