About The Position

As a valued member of Grace Health, the PRN Dentist will support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dental care with a focus on oral surgery services. This role is primarily responsible for performing routine, surgical, and select complex extractions, with appropriate referral of cases as indicated. In doing so, the provider will strengthen Grace Health’s capacity to manage complex dental needs while improving patient access to timely, comprehensive care. The provider will also perform urgent dental treatment, including limited exams, to address immediate patient needs. The incumbent will leverage advanced clinical training to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients requiring routine and surgical extractions, including impacted teeth and other dentoalveolar procedures. Additionally, the provider may perform soft tissue biopsies of the oral cavity, as clinically indicated, to support early detection and diagnosis of oral pathology, with appropriate referral and follow-up based on findings. This individual will work collaboratively with dental providers, hygienists, and care teams to ensure continuity of care, appropriate treatment planning, and optimal patient outcomes. This position plays a key role in reducing external referrals, supporting clinical efficiency, and expanding service capacity across Grace Health’s dental program. The PRN Dentist will maintain compliance with all clinical protocols, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements while contributing to a safe, effective, and patient-focused care environment. As a PRN provider, this role offers flexible scheduling aligned with organizational needs and patient demand, while maintaining a strong commitment to clinical excellence and team collaboration. The position is typically scheduled one day per week, with schedules coordinated in advance based on provider availability and patient care needs. Care is delivered utilizing local anesthesia and minimal sedation modalities (e.g., nitrous oxide, oral sedation), with appropriate referral of complex surgical cases.

Requirements

  • Intermediate-Advanced computer skills, including Epic & Wisdom (EDR) systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Advanced clinical and surgical skills in dental extractions and outpatient oral surgery procedures.
  • Clear and concise interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to educate and counsel patients effectively.
  • Strong clinical judgment with the ability to assess case complexity, manage complications, and determine appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, patient safety, and high-quality clinical care.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with dental and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple patients and procedures efficiently.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment with changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards, OSHA, CDC guidelines, and regulatory requirements related to dental practice.
  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited dental school.
  • Completion of, or current enrollment in, an accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program required.
  • Must be a licensed dentist in the state of Kentucky or eligible for licensure.
  • Current DEA registration and prescribing authority in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

  • Previous experience performing surgical dental procedures, including routine and complex extractions, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality dental care with a primary focus on oral surgery procedures.
  • Performs routine, surgical, and select complex extractions, referring advanced or high-risk cases as indicated; additionally performs soft tissue biopsies of the oral cavity, as clinically appropriate, to support diagnosis and appropriate referral.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and develops appropriate treatment plans for patients requiring surgical dental interventions.
  • Participates in case review and treatment planning workflows, including review of diagnostic imaging (e.g., panoramic radiographs, CBCT) prior to procedure days.
  • Provides care utilizing local anesthesia and minimal sedation modalities (e.g., nitrous oxide, oral sedation) in accordance with training and licensure.
  • Utilizes diagnostic imaging, including panoramic radiographs and CBCT, to support clinical decision-making.
  • Performs procedures in accordance with established clinical protocols, safety standards, and evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborates with general dentists, hygienists, and care teams to ensure coordinated, comprehensive patient care and appropriate case selection.
  • Documents all patient encounters, treatment plans, procedures, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic dental record in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures informed consent is obtained and documented appropriately prior to all procedures.
  • Manages patient care pre-operatively and post-operatively, including providing instructions, follow-up, and addressing complications as needed.
  • Adheres to infection control standards, sterilization protocols, and all OSHA and CDC guidelines to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Supports the reduction of external referrals by managing appropriate surgical cases internally, improving patient access and continuity of care.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and case discussions to support clinical excellence and program development.
  • Maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Grace Health policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and care teams to ensure understanding of treatment recommendations and expectations.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness in scheduling to meet patient care needs in a PRN capacity.
  • Maintains efficient clinical workflows to support procedure volume and patient access.
  • Maintains current licensure, certifications, and required clinical competencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the dental program and organizational goals.
