About The Position

The Dental Surgical Assistant Level 1 position is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of test, procedures, and surgeries. Must be willing to travel within 30 minutes of your home, and float to various locations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials.
  • A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
  • An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
  • Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 or more years of experience in dental assisting.
  • Completion of a dental assisting program.

Responsibilities

  • Operate X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and develop radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
  • Assist the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
  • Provide patients with information on oral health care, treatment plans, and postoperative outcomes.
  • Monitor stock of surgical supplies and medication and replenish these, as needed.
  • Notify Surgical coordinator when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Ensure that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
  • Provide excellent patient care at all times.
  • Review Medical history and surgical treatment plans.
  • Greet and escort patient to treatment area.
  • Send in prescriptions under advisement of physician.
  • Prepare Surgical Trays.
  • Anesthesia preparation and patient care.
  • Obtaining vital signs.
  • Placing leads for monitoring.
  • Reconcile anesthesia medications recorded.
  • Review pre and post op instructions.
  • Restock supplies.
  • Lifts a minimum of 5lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10lbs. and stands a minimum of 5 hours a day.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
