General Responsibility: The dental receptionist serves as the focal point for the practice management software, if applicable. The dental receptionist answers the telephone, referring callers to the appropriate dental source. The dental receptionist must check-in/checkout patients and triages appointments for dental staff. The position requires the knowledge of dental terminology, but does not require management responsibilities. Specific Responsibilities: Greeting patients as they arrive. Making appointments for patients according to written protocols. Registering appropriate data. Assisting patients in completing dental history forms if necessary. Correcting registration errors. Understanding insurance coverage and, if unsure, seeking correct information. Assisting patients with the completion of consent and financial forms, if necessary. Following-up on “DNKA/No Show” patients on a daily basis. Collecting co-pay and balances on patient accounts. Verifying patients’ insurance and medical history. Entering and updating family size and income to determine sliding scale qualifications. Monitoring inventory. Confirming patient appointments. Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Participating in continuing education programs, including one (1) annual training program on compliance with OSHA's Blood borne Pathogen Standard.
