About The Position

As a Dental Laboratory Technician in the Prosthodontics Lab Department of the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, you will play a crucial role in the fabrication and design of dental prostheses. Your primary responsibilities will include serving as a technical expert in fixed prosthodontics, where you will instruct and train an average of 15 military Dental Technicians annually in the fabrication of fixed prostheses. You will also design and present advanced dental laboratory technique courses to technicians and prosthodontic resident dental officers, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest techniques and technologies in the field. In addition to training, you will provide on-the-job formal training in oral dental anatomy as it applies to dental laboratory technology. Your expertise will be essential in designing and fabricating complex fixed and removable prostheses, including implant prostheses, using both traditional methods and advanced Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM) technologies. You will serve as a technical consultant to the NPDS staff and residents, assisting in the design of complex fixed prosthodontic cases, whether using analog models or CAD. You will be responsible for planning and organizing work schedules and production deadlines for the Fixed Prosthodontics Section. This includes overseeing the operation and care of laboratory equipment such as porcelain ovens, vacuum investing equipment, burnout ovens, centrifugal metal casting machines, and CAD computers. Your role is vital in ensuring that the laboratory operates efficiently and that high-quality dental prostheses are produced.
