Under the direction of the Dental Director, the Dental Hygienist offers and provides oral prophylaxis and instructions on oral health care and disease prevention to patients. Requirements

  • 2 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • California Registered Hygienist or D.D.S. License.
  • Graduate of accredited Dental Hygiene program.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.
  • Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
  • Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, following up on apt, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to perform, relevant dental practices, protocol, trends, and best practices.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to adhere to, scope of practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards; in addition, documentation complies with patients' insurance requirements.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing hygiene protocols, audit procedures, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs preventive dental procedures including dental prophylaxis, root planning and scaling, sealants, and oral health education.
  • Understands scope of practice. Consults when appropriate and refers patients as necessary to dentist, dental specialists and/or medical providers.
  • Uses resources efficiently; practices in a cost-effective manner.
