About The Position

A Dental Hygienist provides oral care such as debridement, hand scaling and regular cleanings to patients and provides them with education and teaching to assist with developing and maintaining good oral health. Works with the supervising dentist to provide direct services to the identified patients. Serves as part of a consulting team with constant and effective communication to management and direct care staff regarding clinical policies and procedures. Works to advance positive patient outcomes through their duties as a primary care treatment team leader.

Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
  • Current Montana dental hygienist license
  • BLS certificate
  • Valid driver's license

  • One-year relevant job experience
  • LAP (Limited Access Permit) approved or willing to apply and get LAP certification in State of MT or corresponding permit in neighboring states if offered

Responsibilities

  • Delivers direct patient care to assigned patients using established dental hygienist procedures.
  • Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate.
  • In concert with dentist, develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients.
  • Assesses dental condition and needs of patient by analyzing medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans.
  • Uses patient screening procedures to include medical history review and dental charting.
  • Using the One Health electronic medical record, documents dental history, chief complaint of patient, and pertinent observations.
  • Ensures compliance with the Uniform Data System (UDS) measure regarding use of dental sealants in the patient population.
  • Performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, and related procedures.
  • Identifies suggested recall interval for patient by evaluating their current periodontal/gingival health and appropriately schedules patient.
  • Educates patient on dental/periodontal findings/conditions and provides dental hygiene instruction.
  • Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
  • Sets up and prepares dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
  • Prepares reports and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.
  • Performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
