About The Position

LOCATION: Macomb County Health Department - Warren, MI 48093 POSITION SUMMARY: Under direction, responsible for conducting dental screenings and referrals for the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) program. The position requires working with schools and other community agencies to schedule and coordinate clinics and appointments, conduct oral health assessments, provide referrals, and follow ups as required. This position also provides oral health education in the community, completes mandated MDHHS reporting, and maintains appropriate statistical and information databases. The ideal candidate must be available to work on Mondays & Thursdays; remaining hours are flexible.

Requirements

  • Current state of Michigan registered dental hygienist license. (required)
  • An associates degree in hygiene, public health, or other health related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time work experience (or its part-time equivalent) as a Dental Hygienist in a dental practice or community clinic
  • Current CPR certification (required)
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation (required)
  • Principles, practices, current developments, and techniques related to oral health.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality and follow HIPPA standards to safeguard patient information.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, problem-solving skills, and organizational ability.
  • Ability to effectively speak, write and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in public health working with schools, school children, and community clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual oral health assessments, oral health education, referrals and follow-up as needed.
  • Provides patient care coordination, referral and follow-up to individuals and families who are members of a vulnerable population and/or high-risk groups.
  • Coordinates KOHA screenings and appointments and completes required forms and program reports.
  • Coordinate educational programs to agencies, professionals, or groups using an evidence-based model.
  • Participates in meetings, training, and/or conferences as required.
  • Acts as liaison and/or resource person between the Department and community agencies.
  • May operate a county vehicle while performing assigned duties.
  • Complies with P.A. 390 as amended, known as the State’s Emergency Management Act and the County’s Emergency Management resolution as well as all related plans, policies, and procedures covered by these statutes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
