Position Summary: Conducts oral examinations, serves as a preventative care specialist and provides educational, clinical and therapeutic services supporting total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. Provides treatment to mostly a pediatric patient population, that helps to prevent oral diseases such as dental caries and periodontal disease.

Requirements

Possession of an Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene from a school accredited by the American Dental Association.
Must maintain BLS /CPR
One year of experience as a Dental Hygienist, with experience in pediatric patient management.

Responsibilities

Review charts, update medical histories, and communicate with physicians as needed.
Provide services following dentist guidelines and patient-specific instructions.
Record treatments and prescribed plans after each patient visit.
Conduct initial soft tissue examinations, including oral cancer screenings.
Expose, process dental x-rays, and alert the dentist to observations.
Perform oral prophylaxis by scaling and polishing teeth.
Apply cavity prevention agents such as fluorides and sealants.
Maintain accurate medical/dental records and documentation.
Educate patients on diet, brushing, flossing, and use of home care tools.
Demonstrate care for dentures and explain cavity and gum disease prevention.
Practice infectious disease control procedures rigorously.
Maintain dental instruments and monitor supply inventory.
Assist Dental Assistants with various tasks as necessary.
Attend continuing education programs to maintain licensure.
Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
