About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral health services under the supervision of a licensed dentist in accordance with the New York State dental practice laws. Supports daily clinic operations while maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure regulatory compliance and data integrity. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Dental Hygienist supports VIP Community Services’ mission by delivering high-quality, patient-centered dental care in accordance with FQHC, New York State, and organizational standards. The Dentist Hygienist is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) to support clinical care, quality improvement, billing, and regulatory reporting requirements. Adheres to all infection control, HIPAA, and safety protocols while contributing to a respectful, culturally competent, and team-based care environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program
  • Current New York State Dental License
  • CPR/BLS Certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage both client-facing and administrative tasks
  • Assistance in maintaining active and archived case records
  • Basic Computer Skills with the ability to learn a dental software system

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Experience in community health or FQHC preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleanings, scaling, and root planting
  • Apply fluoride, sealants, and preventive treatments
  • Obtain and process dental radiographs
  • Conduct periodontal assessments and charting
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and disease prevention
  • Maintain infection control and sterilization standards
  • Document services accurately in the EHR
  • Support quality assurance and patient engagement initiatives
  • Ensure all clinical documentation is completed accurately and within required time-frames in the HER
  • Collaborate with dentists, dental assistants, and interdisciplinary care team members to coordinate patient care
  • Participate in CQI activities
  • Participate in multidisciplinary task forces, committees, and projects.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Maintain a positive image of VIP Community Services in the community and within partner organizations
  • Attend all mandatory in-service trainings annually
  • Attend seminars and trainings to support ongoing professional development
  • Participate in team meetings and comply with all Dental Health Services policies and procedures
