About The Position

General Statement of Job: Dental Hygienist are integral to the efficiency and delivery of quality oral health care and are valuable members of the dental care team. The Hygienist will work in concert with the Dentist and dental team to meet the oral health needs of patients. The hygienist performs varied responsibilities and services integral to patient dental care and all related clinical procedures. Tasks require strong interpersonal and technical skills, good hand-eye coordination, and organizational skills. Knowledge and experience in expanded duty dental functions is key. sts. ThisThis position is performed in a community dental health center and has an equitable role in dental health education activities and quality measurers. Essential Functions: Provides patient screening procedures: assessment of oral health conditions, review health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking vitals. Maintains and enters into the electronic dental records (EDR) and digital imaging. Takes digital diagnostic xrays. Removes calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth. Applies preventive materials to the teeth (e.g. sealants and fluorides). Teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health. Performs documentation for quality standards and office management activities. Inquires about the patient?s medical history and takes blood pressure and pulse. Serves as the infection control officer, prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment. Interacts with patients to help feel at ease before, during and after dental treatment. Provides patients with instructions for oral care pre and post treatment. Teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain optimum oral health (e.g. brushing, flossing, counseling, good nutrition and tobacco cessation). Takes impressions of patients teeth for casts (models of teeth). Maintains data integrity in the system for all patients. Helps provide direct patient care in all dental specialties. Addresses all expanded duty functions as allowed by law. Requirements

  • High school or GED required.
  • Training from an accredited Dental Hygiene Program required.
  • Florida Dental Hygiene License required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience, preferably in private/public sector dentistry.
  • Current ACLS or BLS certification required.
  • Current Florida RDH license

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Creole preferred.
