About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The Dental Hygienist position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution in Hookerton, which houses approximately 477. Reporting to the Dentist. Position is responsible for performing the following duties under the general supervision of a licensed dentist.
Requirements
- Demonstrated Knowledge in the application of the techniques and practices of dental hygiene.
- Demonstrated working skills using dental equipment, instrumentation and radio graphic techniques
- Licensed to practice as a dental hygienist in North Carolina.
- Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
Responsibilities
- Examining teeth of patients and makes referrals to dentist.
- Applies topical fluorides and performing dental prophylaxis in the prevention of dental diseases.
- Records findings and maintains records on dental status and services rendered to patients.
- Instructs patients on the proper care of teeth.
- Recommends measures for the prevention of dental diseases.
- Assists the dentist in planning and carrying out dental health programs.
