Requirements

  • A valid license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist, issued by the New York State Department of Education.
  • One year of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Responsibilities

  • Review a patient's medical and dental history.
  • Take x-rays: bite wings, periapical, panorex and review them for signs of dental diseases.
  • Screen patients during checkups for gross carries and pathology.
  • Contact the attending or resident to verify findings and complete the exam.
  • Perform dental cleaning using a cavitron machine and scalers.
  • Apply fluoride treatment to children.
  • Counsel and educate both patients and families on the proper ways to maintain good dental hygiene.
  • Provide oral hygiene instructions.
  • Complete a visit within 30 minutes.
  • Confirm your patients' appointments for the following day.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Ability to perform Dental Hygiene activities on both Children and Adults.
  • Check equipment daily and perform basic maintenance, lubrication and report any equipment malfunction to the administrator.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest dental instrumentation and methods.
  • Participate in Departmental Performance Improvement projects.
