About The Position

The Dental Front Office and Billing Supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of the dental front desk, supervises the dental front desk and billing staff, processes insurance claims, and ensures patient invoices are accurate. They serve as the primary point of contact between patients, staff, and insurance providers, resolving billing discrepancies, overseeing collections, and maintaining compliance with dental coding regulations. Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.

  • High school diploma required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a dental setting desired
  • Prior knowledge of dental billing or medical billing required
  • Any combination of education and work experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying
  • Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise billing and coding staff.
  • When needed, submit dental claims.
  • As necessary, work denials, appeals, and secondary claims.
  • Continually monitor and reconcile aging accounts, suspended credits, and procedures not attached to insurance claims daily.
  • Ensure payment plans are arranged for dental patients having past due accounts.
  • Ensure that the dental statements are being processed, worked, and mailed monthly. Assist with this process as necessary.
  • Monitor CDT coding procedures. Provide feedback and education related to coding (to dentist, hygienists, and staff) on an on-going basis.
  • Identify dental billing problems. Research problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure that predeterminations are being submitted as necessary in order to determine balances owed. Assist with this process as necessary.
  • Ensure charges were posted correctly according to the billing timeline.
  • Handle patient account disputes; provide answers to patient inquiries.
  • Ensure that the quarterly chart audits for the Compliance and Performance Improvement Committee are completed and reported.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Complete KMAP, BCBS and commercial applications and contracts for providers.
  • Renew contracts for existing providers.
  • Fill out and submit any necessary information requested by the insurance companies.
  • Update CAQH for providers as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Supervise dental front desk reception staff.
  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Assist and ensure staff check patients in & out for appointments properly.
  • Work collaboratively with medical front desk to ensure Discount Program patients are covered adequately.
  • Assist other staff to answer phone calls and scheduling needs when needed.
  • Assist as needed with ensuring that alert for credit problems and verify financial class status on new patients are being identified and documented.
  • Ensure maintenance of DNKA process.
  • Work with other staff members to foster a team approach to the highest quality of patient care and staff cooperation.
  • Optimize provider schedules in collaboration with clinical staff to ensure efficient use of provider time and maximize patient access.
  • Maintain work area and lobby in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and OSHA.
