About The Position

The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) has an opening for a Dental Dispensary Technician I or II. Under the direction of the appropriate supervisor, this role is responsible for supporting clinical and preclinical activities by managing and distributing dental supplies, instruments, and equipment. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that students, faculty, and residents have the necessary resources for patient care and laboratory activities, while maintaining accuracy, organization, and proper inventory control. Requirements

Dental Dispensary Technician I: One year of dental assisting experience.
Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.
Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.
Dental Dispensary Technician II: Two years of dental assisting experience.
Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Cleans and decontaminates and provides maintenance of instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques.
Ensures proper functioning of equipment.
Cleans sanitizing machines and equipment.
Maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution.
Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units
Collects used instruments and moves them for sterilization.
Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for residents, faculty, and undergraduate students to be used during dental patient treatment.
Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials for the clinical area of responsibility.
Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of dental materials, their use, maintenance, and storage.
Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support.
