Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dentist during examination and treatment of patients.
  • Handle instruments and supplies as directed.
  • Utilize electronic medical record system as applicable.
  • Maintain supplies, materials, and records of treatment.
  • Set up instruments, equipment, and supplies as directed.
  • Prepare the patient for treatment.
  • Ensure proper clean up, packaging, and sterilizing of instruments.
  • Assist in instruction of patients in proper dental hygiene.
  • Accurately record services in the patient's medical record.
  • Assist in screenings for dental emergencies and sick call.
  • Provide chair-side assistance by keeping operating field clear, passing instruments, and suctioning.
  • Scrub and sterilize instruments.
  • Mix restorative materials.
  • Assist in taking intra-oral x-rays.
  • Develop and mount x-ray films.
  • Maintain x-ray unit, processor, autoclave, and dental unit according to specifications.
  • Inventory supplies and equipment to maintain adequate levels.
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Ensure sufficient number of trays set up for the day's patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dental clinic.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a dental setting and/or correctional health care.
  • Prior experience with use of electronic medical record system.
  • Preferably registered or certified by professional association.
  • Current CPR Certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
  • High School Graduate or GED certificate.
