Responsibilities
- Assist the Dentist during examination and treatment of patients.
- Handle instruments and supplies as directed.
- Utilize electronic medical record system as applicable.
- Maintain supplies, materials, and records of treatment.
- Set up instruments, equipment, and supplies as directed.
- Prepare the patient for treatment.
- Ensure proper clean up, packaging, and sterilizing of instruments.
- Assist in instruction of patients in proper dental hygiene.
- Accurately record services in the patient's medical record.
- Assist in screenings for dental emergencies and sick call.
- Provide chair-side assistance by keeping operating field clear, passing instruments, and suctioning.
- Scrub and sterilize instruments.
- Mix restorative materials.
- Assist in taking intra-oral x-rays.
- Develop and mount x-ray films.
- Maintain x-ray unit, processor, autoclave, and dental unit according to specifications.
- Inventory supplies and equipment to maintain adequate levels.
- Order supplies and equipment as needed.
- Ensure sufficient number of trays set up for the day's patients.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dental clinic.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Experience working in a dental setting and/or correctional health care.
- Prior experience with use of electronic medical record system.
- Preferably registered or certified by professional association.
- Current CPR Certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
- High School Graduate or GED certificate.
