About the position

The Dental Assistant position at NYC Health + Hospitals involves assisting the Dentist or Oral Surgeon under direct supervision. Responsibilities include preparing patients for treatment, taking X-rays, maintaining dental equipment, and assisting with ambulatory surgical procedures. The position is full-time with a regular day shift from 9:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dentist or Oral Surgeon under direct supervision.
  • Prepare the patient prior to treatment by seating and draping them.
  • Take X-Rays including periapical, bite wings, and Panorex.
  • Assume chair side duties including assisting with surgery and maintaining equipment.
  • Disinfect the dental operatory between patients and change hand pieces.
  • Break down used trays prior to sterilization and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Assist with Ambulatory Surgical Procedures by giving pre and post-op instructions and monitoring patients' vital signs.
  • Prepare procurement requisitions for medical-surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Use the EPIC (WISDOM) scheduling system as needed.
  • Transport soiled instruments following Infection Prevention standards.

Requirements

  • A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program with 600 hours of supervised internship experience; or
  • A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program with 300 hours of supervised internship experience and 6 months of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant; or
  • A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.
