About The Position

Dental Assistants assist the Dentists in providing optimal dental care that both addresses and reduces the oral health disparities among the population served by LCH&D. All care and services are provided in accordance with LCH&D’s philosophy of “partnership” with patients while integrating its values of Respect, Quality, Compassion and Hope. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serve as a dental care guide to patients and make every reasonable effort to make patients as comfortable as possible. Welcome and drape the patient. Review patient’s medical and oral history. Elicit relevant information from patient/caregiver regarding current and prior conditions or ailments. Measure and record patient vital signs. Educate patients and their caregivers on recommended techniques to improve and maintain good oral health. Prepare treatment rooms, tools, and equipment according to LCH&D protocols. Clean treatment rooms, tools, and equipment after procedures according to LCH&D protocols. Must demonstrate clinical competency in all 4 handed dental procedures including but not limited to: Preventative Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, Oral Surgery Procedures, Endodontics, Diagnostic Radiographs. Must demonstrate competency in the role as “floater” and demonstrate good time management.

Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have completed a dental assistant program, and have an Ohio State Dental Radiograph permit or eligibility for a permit.
  • Must have BLS certification
  • A minimum of three years of dental experience in a non-profit community healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Must have proficient computer skills and the ability to become proficient in software programs specific to LCH&D i.e. NextGen, EPM, EHR, etc.
  • Must have the skill and credibility to serve as a patient advocate and be a role model for change.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor and communicate enthusiastically with patients.
  • Ability to be responsive in working with a culturally-diverse patient population.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus.
