About The Position

Purpose of the Job This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below: Support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mobile dental clinic by providing chairside assistance and operational support to enable access to dental care for Veterans. Duties include patient preparation and education, operatory and instrument preparation, infection control, radiography, documentation in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Dental EHR, scheduling support, and coordination with VA stakeholders to deliver care in the mobile setting.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license as a Dental Assistant in Vermont.
  • Must be certified as a radiographer as a Dental Assistant.
  • Must possess at least one year of experience as a full time Dental Assistant.
  • Must possess a current unrestricted driver’s license in the US and have an ability to drive a mobile dental clinic (commercial driver’s license not required)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, and break down the mobile dental clinic at designated locations; ensure equipment is functional and safely transported; secure the unit when unattended; assist in maintaining inventory; assist with pre‑ and post‑appointment operatory preparation; follow vehicle laws and report issues to the designated point of contact.
  • Coordinate sterile processing of reusable medical devices (RMD) with Sterile Processing Service (SPS). Maintain asepsis and clean equipment and spaces per VA Office of Dentistry Infection Control Standards and applicable Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Joint Commission requirements. Ensure proper handling and disposal of waste, sharps, and biohazards.
  • Facilitate effective communication among stakeholders; participate in meetings and quality‑improvement activities; assist with appointment scheduling and patient‑flow coordination; collaborate with VA dental staff to coordinate care that cannot be completed in the mobile setting; ensure communications are timely and documented.
  • Operate dental X‑ray equipment, evaluate images for diagnostic quality, apply dental imaging safety techniques, and securely upload images to the Veteran’s electronic dental record.
  • Adhere to clinic guidelines and all VA policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. Use VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Dental EHR to record all patient documentation. Protect patient privacy and handle records per VA policies and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Perform chairside dental assistant duties for all phases of dentistry under the direction of the dentist; prepare patients and instruments; measure and record vital signs; provide patient education materials and verbal/written instructions; assist with EHR updates, treatment notes, and lab prescriptions as requested.
  • Schedule Veterans in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Directive 1230 (Outpatient Scheduling) and support timely access to care requirements.
  • Assist in identifying inefficiencies; document and communicate approved process changes; support preparation of reports summarizing dental care activities and performance metrics; gather stakeholder feedback and support improvement strategies.
  • Report suspected privacy or information‑security incidents immediately (within one hour) to the VA Office of Information and Technology (OIT) Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) and provide the incident number to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR)/Contracting Officer (CO).
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
