About The Position

Progressive Community Health Centers, founded in 1999, is an independent non-profit organization operating four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With over 100 employees, the agency's mission is to improve community health and quality of life by providing culturally competent services. They offer high-quality, comprehensive care to approximately 16,000 low-income patients annually, ensuring no one is turned away based on insurance or ability to pay. Services include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology, integrated behavioral health, and supportive services like case management, health education, and benefits enrollment. The Dental Assistant performs various dental procedures and tasks under the direct supervision of the Dental Supervisor, including sterilization, lab work, chairside assisting, and light clerical duties.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent, with completion of a Dental Assistant Certification program, from an accredited technical college or State training program.
  • At least six months of on-the-job training and/or experience in a clinic or dentist's office.
  • Must be BLS certified.
  • It is mandatory that all employees, employed providers and volunteers are vaccinated. All hired candidates must submit proof of vaccination prior to their orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a community health, public health, or in a community hospital, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in huddles and team/company meetings and trainings
  • Checks-in to see daily assignment for that day, floater, sterilization or lab.
  • Is aware of schedule and patient needs for the day
  • Prepares treatment trays for patient's scheduled procedure per Operatory Setup guidelines.
  • Prepare operatory for appointment as needed.
  • Greets patients and escort them from the reception room, marking their arrival on that day's schedule and electronically notifying the provider per EDR process.
  • Escorts and seats patients for both dentist and hygienist.
  • Prepares patients by maintaining patient flow and awareness of the schedule.
  • Prepares patient with patient napkin, eyewear, and chats with patient to relax patient and verify appointment needs and expectations.
  • Takes and records medical and dental histories including pre-medication requirements.
  • Takes and documents vital signs of patients
  • If blood pressure is pre-hypertensive or greater, notifies treating provide
