About The Position

The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) supports dental providers in delivering high-quality patient care by assisting with clinical procedures, maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and ensuring efficient patient flow. The CDA is responsible for performing duties within their scope of certification while adhering to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.
  • Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and terminology.
  • Understanding of infection control and safety standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous dental assisting experience, preferably 2+ years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures (e.g., exams, restorations, extractions).
  • Prepare and position patients for treatment.
  • Take and record vital signs and dental/medical histories as appropriate.
  • Expose and process dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations.
  • Perform coronal polishing, sealants, or fluoride treatments if certified and allowed by state law.
  • Provide chairside assistance using four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Follow all infection control protocols, including sterilization and disinfection of instruments and operatory rooms.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, CDC, and clinic infection control standards.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive care.
  • Ensure patient comfort and address concerns professionally and respectfully.
  • Document procedures and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist with scheduling, chart preparation, and coordination of care as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of dental supplies and assist with ordering.
  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Collaborate effectively with dental team members and other departments.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times and contribute to a respectful work environment.
  • Document procedures and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist with scheduling, chart preparation, and coordination of care as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of dental supplies and assist with ordering.
