Requirements

Graduation from a dental assistant program that qualifies for state licensure.
Three letters of reference
Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination, TB Skin test of chest radiography, AHA CPR certification
Training in radiation physics, biology, health, safety/protection, X-ray films/digital radiography, image quality, and radiographic techniques meeting or exceeding 42 C.F.R. Part 75 requirements.
Successful completion of the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) and possession of an active, current, valid, and unrestricted license in at least one of the 50 states, and/or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territories of the United States.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a dental hygienist within the last two years prior to contract execution.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive examinations of patients' oral cavity, including mouth, throat, and pharynx, and record conditions of teeth and surrounding tissues.
Refer patients with abnormalities such as cavities, defective fillings, suspicious growths, or periodontal disease to the dentist.
Apply desensitizing and other topical agents to treat abnormalities like gingivitis and oral ulceration.
Instruct patients, both individually and in groups, in proper oral hygiene care using various materials and techniques.
Explain the common causes of tooth decay and construct sports/safety mouth guards and soft night guards for vital bleaching.
Polish restorations, apply pit and fissure sealants, and assist chairside dental assisting when directed by the dental clinic's Officer in Charge (OIC).
Maintain accurate records of patients treated and ensure proper maintenance and sterilization of instruments.
