About The Position

Provide four-handed chairside assistance to dental residents and students treating special needs patients in multiple dental disciplines. Prepare surgical operatory, set-up for procedures under IV sedation, and assist with patient monitoring during surgical procedures. Ensure safe use, disposal, and storage of chemicals or hazardous materials. Take digital intra-oral and extra oral radiographic imaging (e.g. bitewing, periapical, occlusal and panoramic views in digital/plate/sensor formats). Review radiographs, within guidelines. Process and route imaging related materials. Greet, screen and direct patients. Confirm patient is authorized for a radiographic examination. Dispense supplies, equipment, and instruments, maintain cleanliness of work area and perform routine maintenance and disinfection of sedation equipment, suction equipment, suction lines and other equipment; maintain quality/safety standards; ensure adherence to infection control protocol.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years
  • Graduate of a Dental Assistant Training Program and experience working with special needs patients or oral surgery and 1-2 years of related experience including experience working with patients under IV sedation/general anesthesia.
  • Knowledge of chairside assisting for oral surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of oral surgical instrumentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years Experience working with patients with disabilities
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (RDA or CDA).
  • Knowledge of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Korean, Chinese).
