About The Position

The main function of the Dental Assistant Trainee is to complete the Sea Mar dental assistant training program and assist in the delivery of dental services to clients from Sea Mar Community Health Centers.

Requirements

  • This person must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient related information.
  • This person must receive a background check from the Washington State Patrol.
  • The new employee shall sigh and date the job description to affirm the validity of the information herein, and to signify compliance with the conditions of employment.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to operate in a manner that will prevent employees/patients exposure to communicable diseases through proper infection control.
  • Must also be able to perform satisfactorily the requirements listed above and listed in the task and duty list.
  • Completed a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must participate in the Sea Mar Dental Assistant program: must be registered with the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • A Dental Assistant Trainee must have the ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff both verbally and in writing.
  • Have the ability to read and interpret common written materials about dentistry.
  • Must be able to communicate basic mathematical figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to define and problem solve, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Have a current certification in CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for both infants and adults.
  • Must have annual TB test.
  • Must maintain their Washington State Registration will result in disciplinary action, including suspension and up to Termination.
  • The physical demands that must be met by a Dental Assistant Trainee are those required to successfully perform the essential functions of dental assisting in dentistry.

  • Requirements for performing the duties of this job as a dental assistant: The position regularly requires the physical demands to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands an arms, talk and hear. I s occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift or move a child or object of an average weight (up to 50lbs ).
  • Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distant, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Be courteous and professional at all times when talking to patients or discussing confidential information and assist in giving instructions to patients before, after and during dental procedures, following Federal, State and other HIPPA regulations.
  • The duties and responsibilities for this position may change with changes occurring in the clinic activities or requirements. The Supervisor may assign temporary work in other departments.
  • Learn the basic skills to assist the dental providers in the delivery of dental procedures allowed by the Washington Dental Act.
  • Be able to learn the basic dental assisting skills in: Basic understanding of dental materials, dental terminology and names of instruments. Infection control guidelines and methods of sterilization (please refer to Methods of Sterilization Policy #900.044). Basic radiology, including taking X-rays with sensors. Providing patient education and instructions to patients before, after and during any dental procedure. Basic understanding of front desk procedures, including scheduling in the Epic system, answering phones and communicating with patients. l. Be able to perform assigned duties in the "Task & Duty List" (Dental Proper handling of dental materials.
  • Have the ability to complete thorough and accurate charting in the Epic, including using S.O.A.P, P.A.R.T.S or similar templates.
  • Complete any additional assigned task as given by the dental supervisor. The supervisor may assign temporary work in other departments or other dental sites.
  • Successful completion of this program renders the DA Trainee eligible to take the DA 1 Competency Test at the assigned time of clinical competency testing.
